If you are after the best things to do in Abu Dhabi, then this is it.
Architecture plays a huge part of Abu Dhabi’s identity, so it comes as no surprise that you can find some of the most interesting structures built in modern times and the innovative designs make you fascinated with the question of how they managed to get all the buildings standing so tall, along with strength built into them at the same time to last many decades.
Why visit Abu Dhabi?
Abu Dhabi is the capital city of United Arab Emirates. It is one of the most wealthiest cities in the world and accounts for about two thirds of the country’s economy. It is one of the largest exporters of oil in the world and is home to the President of the country, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque
The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque was built at the end of 2007 at the cost of $545 million US dollars and took a substantial 12 years to complete. It is one of the world’s largest mosques at over 22,400 square meters and is able to accommodate up to 41,000 people at a time.

Background
It was named after the first President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, as he envisaged and drove the project. His body lies in the courtyard of the Mosque grounds to honour and commemorate his wish.
It has 82 domes and houses the world’s largest chandelier and hand-woven carpet.
The materials used to build the mosque are sourced from around the globe to create the unique appearance and feel.
Abayas
Abayas, which are long dresses with scarves to cover the hair, are included as part of the visit for women and long pants are provided for men.
It is open to the public and people of other faiths.
Desert Safari
For those more adventurous, a desert safari is not to be missed.
One of the best things about this activity is that pick up and drop-off is usually included, so you don’t need to go out of your way to figure out the logistics. It normally consists of a variety of inclusions such as dune bashing, camel rides, Arabic and barbeque food (vegetable option available if booked), water & soft drinks, belly dancing, shisha and even a bar.
Some packages take some of these activities out for those who prefer less and some packages include henna paintings, sand skiing, arabic coffee & dates, quad biking and more.
I urge you to try this if you are looking for a unique experience like nowhere else in the world. It was definitely at the top of our list of memorable things we did while we were in Abu Dhabi.
